OK - so there’s a lot to read - but here’s a straight forward guide to help you
before committing to buy, especially if you're not as 'sound savvy' as a qualified
recording engineer. This guide will make your purchasing decision much easier...

Winner of countless Technology awards, The HHB FlashMic is the world’s first
professional digital recording Microphone setting new standards for major
broadcasters, such as BBC, CBN, CNN, Fox, NBC, Sky, etc,etc and scores of
small independent freelance reporters, audio recorders, etc.

The FlashMic DRM85 combines a high-quality Sennheiser omni-directional
condenser mic with an inbuilt, Broadcast-quality Flash Recorder. It is ultra
convenient, easy to operate and durable. Its reliable performance makes it
perfect for use in all voice recording applications, including Press and
Broadcast Journalism, Interviewing, Voice-Overs, Singers, Podcasting, etc.

With no messy cables or bulky attached recording devices to cart around, just
a press of the button is all it takes to start recording in either linear or MPEG 2
formats on to the internal Flash memory. Then, simply ‘drag and drop’ file
transfer at up to 90x real time to a Mac or PC for editing or onward
transmission via a simple ‘plug and play’ USB connection - or convert to MP3.

Two AA batteries provide more than 8 hours continuous power and, with a
0 - 10 seconds prerecord buffer and 1GB of flash memory, you can be sure
that you’ll never miss a word of that important interview with a FlashMic.

With a total capacity of 999 tracks and up to 18 hours recording on 1GB of
internal Flash memory, FlashMic entirely eliminates the worry of running out of
tape or disc space. Holding the record button down for more than 2 seconds
locks the FlashMic in record mode for complete security and visible warnings
of low battery life and low recording memory add further peace of mind.

The FlashMic operates intuitively ‘straight out of the box’ and comes complete
with 2 AA batteries,
pouch, stand clamp, USB cable and the highly acclaimed
FlashMic Manager Software + manual - all you need is someone to interview!.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do you only sell to Broadcasters / Radio Companies at these trade prices?
A. No. There are lots of free-lancers out there and whilst we have grown to become the UK's largest distributor
of FlashMics because of our unique position in dealing with every Radio Company in the UK, we only have one
set of prices that anyone can buy at.

Q. What is the LI version for?

A. The DRM85LI is the same as the standard FlashMic with the extra added feature of a useful line input.
When the line input cable is not connected they work in exactly the same way as the standard FlashMics.
When the line input cable is connected, the microphone in the FlashMic works like a conventional Mic
and the recording is taken from the signal from the line input cable.
This feature was added for the specific requirement of recording at Press conferences etc where it is not
always possible for the reporter / journalist to operate the Mic as you would at a one to one interview.

Q. How do I get the recordings onto my computer?
A. The FlashMic has a USB port. When this is connected to a computer, using a standard USB A-B cable (supplied), the FlashMic will appear as a ‘USB mass storage device’ in the same way that the a USB memory
stick does. All of the recordings will be in a folder named ‘AUDIO’. Recordings can also be transferred to a computer using the FlashMic Manager Software which allows remaining or converting the files as they are transferred to the computer.

Q. How long can a record for on the FlashMic?
A. The FlashMic has 1GB internal memory. Depending on the settings this memory can store a maximum of between 3 hours and 18 hours 25 minutes of recordings. See the ‘Recording Times’ page in manual.

Q. The FlashMic can record MP2 files. What are these and why does it not record MP3 files?
A. MP2 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer II) is widely used in broadcast and works very well on speech / spoken word.
MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer III) on the other hand is widely used for compressing music files for use on the internet and with portable players MP3 players. More information of MP2 can be found on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-1_Audio_Layer_II.

Q. I have been asked to send someone MP3 files. How do I convert my FlashMic recordings to MP3?
A. The FlashMic Manager software can be used to convert recordings to .mp3 files as they are transferred
from the FlashMic to the computer. Basically, MP3 compresses the file to make it smaller for sending.

Q. Which is the latest Version of FlashMic Manager software and is this included when I buy a Microphone?
A. Yes. Software CD is included in the box and customers report it is excellent sound management software.
Latest version is V5.4.0 - download it as a zip file from HERE if you need latest upgrade. Upgrades are free.

Q. Can you recommend a good sound editing programme for FlashMic besides the Operating Software that
comes with it - to give me a fully functioning Sound recording / editing system?

A. YES we can! Just visit our friends at PowerSound and download a FREE copy of PowerSound Editor.
This is an award winning programme that enables you to Create, Record, Edit and Enhance Audio Files
and save them in any number of different formats. Dare we say it is a lot more user friendly than 'audacity'?
Heres the link: http://www.free-sound-editor.com

Q. And for Apple Mac users ?
A. We have heard some really good reports about 'wave pad' from a number of mac-users - and like Power-
Sound, there is a pretty comprehensive FREE version that is fully functioning and comes with no restrications.

Heres the link: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html

Q. Can I talk to someone about anything ?
A. YES - our phone number is 01423 781700 - and we are 'sound savvy' - not just 'box shifters'!
